THE LOST AND THE GOSPEL

INTRODUCTION: This tract uses acrostics as headings and memory devices for the major points that are being made with the application of these words often used by Christians. Bible passages for this revised edition on MPNHome.net are from the New Heart English Bible. The tract was written by Michael D. Justice (the author an manager of this website), and the original edition was printed in Springfield, Ohio in March 1982.

THE FIRST ACROSTIC FOR LOST

Losing Out in Sin and Transgression

Every person is in sin when they are born. the sin nature is universal, and no person exists without it:
Psalms 14 "1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt. They have done abominable works. There is none who does good. 2 The LORD looked down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there were any who did understand, who did seek after God. 3 They have all gone aside. They have together become corrupt. There is none who does good, no, not one."
Romans 3 "21 But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified by the Law and the Prophets; 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all those who believe. For there is no distinction, 23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;"
Romans 5 "12 Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; and so death passed to all men, because all sinned."
Romans 5 "17 For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ. 18 So then as through one trespass, all men were condemned; even so through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life. 19 For as through the one man's disobedience many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one, many will be made righteous."
James 4 "13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow let us go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit." 14 Whereas you do not know what tomorrow will be like. What is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 For you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that." 16 But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil. 17 To him therefore who knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin."
1 John 1 "8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

THE SECOND ACROSTIC FOR LOST

Lacking Our Savior's Transformation

Man remains in his sinful condition, unless changed by the transforming power of Jesus Christ:
Isaiah 61 "10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its bud, and as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations."
Isaiah 64 "6 For we have all become as one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is as a polluted garment: and we all fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. 7 There is none who calls on your name, who stirs up himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have consumed us by means of our iniquities. 8 But now, LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you our potter; and we all are the work of your hand. 9 Do not be furious, LORD, neither remember iniquity forever: see, look, we beg you, we are all your people."
2 Corinthians 5 "17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, new things have come."
Titus 2 "11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all mankind, 12 instructing us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age; 13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ; 14 who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works."
Galatians 2 "16 yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law."

THE FIRST ACROSTIC FOR GOSPEL

God's Own Sacrificial Plan for Eternal Life

Until we have the Savior's transformation, we are depending upon our own means to satisfy God. We must recognize that ONLY through his own plan, can God be satisfied.
Psalms 34 "21 Evil shall kill the wicked. Those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. 22 The LORD redeems the soul of his servants. None of those who take refuge in him shall be condemned."
Isaiah 53 "3 He was despised, and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering; as one from whom men hide their face, and we despised him and we did not value him. 4 Surely he has borne our sicknesses, and carried our pains; yet we considered him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray. Everyone has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all."
John 3 "14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. 18 He who believes in him is not judged. He who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God."
John 14 "1 Do not let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many dwelling places. If it weren't so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also. 4 And you know where I am going and you know the way." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Ephesians 2 "8 for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, that no one would boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them."
Titus 3 "4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of rebirth and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior; 7 that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 This saying is faithful, and concerning these things I desire that you affirm confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men;"
Romans 10 "9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.""

THE SECOND ACROSTIC FOR GOSPEL

Go Out and Share His Plan by Evangelistic Living

Our lives should picture the transformation we have received through Christ. We must then honor our Lord by sharing with others, the source of our transformation. The section of the first acrostic for GOSPEL has some content that also reflects sharing God's plan.
Isaiah 52 "7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!""
Mark 16 "14 Afterward he was revealed to the Eleven themselves as they sat at the table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen him after he had risen. 15 He said to them, "Go into all the world, and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation.",br /> Galatians 2 "20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me."
Philippians 1 "20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be disappointed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
Colossians 3 "14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to God. 17 Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.",br /> James 1 "22 But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect Law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does."

The Sripture in this tract speaks for itself. How have you prepared for eternity? Christ, PLUS NOTHING ELSE, will assure your eternity in heaven. Ask Christ to take control of your life today! The spiritual fruit which you bear after that decision, will glorify Christ. And Christ will forgive, and provide you with the power to overcome future sins in your life.
